How voice typing works
Sign in and choose your microphone, then follow these steps:
- Put the cursor in a draft, note or prompt field.
- Hold Right Alt on Windows, Right Option on Mac, or Left Ctrl + Left Alt + Space on Linux, and talk.
- Let go, and the text lands at your cursor.
- Review names, numbers and meaning before you send or save.
See the original words while recording
Turn on Settings > Voice & translation > Live transcription display to see the recognized original text above the capsule. Expand the preview to look back through the passage. It shows the recognition in progress; the text field receives the completed output after recording stops.
Choose how to prepare your words
Use Style for dictation and Translation for speech in another language. Choose a target language in Settings > Voice & translation > Translation before translating.
- Original wording: choose Original in Style > Cleanup.
- Cleaned text: choose Auto cleanup in Style > Cleanup.
- Translation: use Translate on the capsule or your configured Translation shortcut.
- Translation cleanup: choose AI cleanup of translated text in Settings > Voice & translation > Translation.
Try a first draft
Example input: “Thanks for the update. I can review the draft on Thursday. Please send the latest version and the two questions you want me to focus on.”
It works in 30 languages: use automatic detection, or pick up to 4 of 30 recognition languages in Settings > Voice & translation > Input languages.
SayDart types; you hit send
SayDart writes the text and never sends anything for you. If a box ever won't take the text, it's waiting in History to paste.

Speech to text converts speech into written text. Voice typing, or dictation, puts it into a text field. SayDart focuses on your spoken drafts rather than meeting capture.
