Voice typing vs transcription: writing a draft or recording what was said.

Speech-to-text is the conversion of speech into written words. Voice typing uses that conversion to help you write; transcription is usually about producing a text record of speech.

Voice typing: write into a text field

Speak into an email, document or prompt field and review the draft where you are writing.

Choose voice typing when you want to speak your own draft instead of typing it. This is SayDart’s focus.

Transcription: turn speech into a text record

Transcription creates a text record of speech. The task may require timestamps, speaker labels, audio-file import or verbatim wording.

These are separate capabilities. SayDart does not offer meeting bots, speaker diarization or general audio-file transcription.

Text cleanup: prepare spoken wording for reading

Cleanup cuts "um"s and repeats so your draft reads well. For word-for-word text, choose Original.

Original is in Style > Cleanup. Recognition can still mishear a word, so check exact quotes against the recording.

Pick by the output you need

  • Email or message draft: start with voice typing.
  • Ideas for a document: dictate short passages and edit them in your writing app.
  • An answer or a rewrite: ask an AI assistant.
  • A record with timestamps, speaker labels or exact wording: check that a dedicated transcription tool meets those needs.
  • Sensitive material: check processing and retention requirements before choosing any service.

A simple decision

Writing a draft? Look at insertion, editing and vocabulary support. Recording what was said? Check transcript fidelity, timestamps, speaker labels and audio handling.

FAQ

Visit the help center
Is speech-to-text the same as voice typing?

Speech-to-text is the underlying conversion. Voice typing is a writing workflow that uses it to put your words into a text field.

What if I need an exact record of the words spoken?

Check whether the recording and transcription workflow you choose meets that need, and compare important wording with the original recording. SayDart is built for writing drafts, not verbatim records.

Can SayDart replace a meeting transcription service?

SayDart is designed for personal voice input and assistant conversations. It does not offer the meeting capture, speaker labels or timestamped transcripts you may need from a meeting transcription service.
